Puppy Proof Your Home
Puppies are like babies. They need extra care and attention. Like small children, they can easily fall into harms way, and it is easy to forget that our homes can become dangerous playgrounds to a young, unsuspecting, and untrained puppy.
Move any breakable items that are in reach of a playful and curious pup. They will be attracted to everything. They will wonder about sniffing and exploring, so remove anything within their reach that could fall, break, and harm the puppy.
Keep all electrical cords out of site and off the floor. When plugged in they can become harmful chew toys.
Immediately pick up any food dropped on the floor, a puppy will sniff at, eat, or lick at spills, crumbs, etc. Food droppings or spills may contain harmful ingredients such as onions, chocolate, or seasonings that might cause irritation to eyes and noise.
Be careful not to walk away from hot drinks and plates even for a moment. It only takes a split second for a puppy to tip over a hot beverage.
Don't leave shoes, socks, or slippers lying on the floor. Again, these will become handy play toys for the puppy. And, watch out for small items such as pins, needles, paperclips, or other small or sharp items. These can be deadly if swallowed, or cause harm to paws if stepped on.
And finally, store cleaning products and plastic bags up and of the reach of puppies. Like toddlers, they could have deadly outcomes if your puppy gets into these items. Make sure that when and if you must leave your puppy alone, they are left in a small contained area, that has been thoroughly puppy proofed. - JVon
